The Utah Human Race has become an annual holiday tradition for many area individuals, friends, and families. The event started in 2006 with 750 participants and now ranks as one of Utah’s largest annual fun run/walks. In 2008, almost 1900 participants helped to raise nearly $30,000 for the Utah Food Bank and other humanitarian services. For 2009, our goal is to have another record crowd and donations in excess of $50,000.

Course

The starting line is approximately 12120 South and 150 East. The route proceeds north on 150 East to 11800 South. Then east on 11800 South and Kimball Lane to 700 East. Turn south to 12100 South. Go West to 300 East. Go south to the round-a-bout at 12200 South. Follow the road west to Factory Outlet Drive. Go north to the west entrance of the Draper Factory Outlet. Go East to the south store entrance.

Beneficiaries

The Utah Food Bank staff and volunteers work together to gather and distribute emergency food to individuals and families experiencing the pain of hunger in Utah. The majority of race proceeds will go directly to the UFB.
LDS Humanitarian Services work with existing charities and local volunteers. Their primary charitable priorities are clean water, emergency response, Neonatal Resuscitation Training, Vision Treatment Training, and Wheelchair Distribution.

Costumes?

Last year we had a few people run in costumes and it made the race more exciting. So we encourage you to run in a safe costume if you want. We will also have our turkey mascots available at the finish lines for photo opportunities (bring your own camera!). What a great way to get that Holiday photo crossed off the list without a lot of stress!

Race Timing

2009 timing will be done by our own volunteers. This will allow us to keep the registration fees low and to send more money to the Utah Food Bank & other charities.

We plan to have TWO FINISH LINE OPTIONS—timed and untimed. If you really don’t care about your time beyond what the clock shows at the finish line, look for the UNTIMED finish chute. If you want to know your time, look for the TIMED chute. Any runner going to the TIMED chute must stay in the chute line until a race volunteer pulls the bottom “tear tag” from your race bib. Any switching of lines will introduce errors into the results, so please follow the volunteers’ instructions.

The results will be posted by gender and age, except on-site registrants who will have bib number and finish time only.
